WFDL (1170 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a 1960s & 1970s classic adult contemporary format. Licensed to Waupun, Wisconsin, USA. The station is currently owned by Radio Plus, Inc. and features programming from CBS Radio.[2]

History

Originally 1170 was known as WLKE and played top-40 rock from 1966 to 1971. From 1971 to 1983, it broadcast country music and was known as "Lucky 1170". After an ownership change it briefly became WGZS, which featured a Christian format. The station was reassigned the call letters WLKE on 1984-01-09 and simulcast a country music format with WLKE-FM (99.3 FM). In 1985, the station flipped the format to a rock oldies format using the Satellite Music Network Pure Gold music format and was call "The Lake". On 1987-02-25, the station changed its call sign to WLKD, when the owner moved the WLKE calls to an AM station he owned in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, (690 kHz). 1170 WLKD retained "The Lake" branding and oldies format, and was simulcast on 690 WLKE. On 1990-07-12, calls changed to WMRH, "Marsh Area Radio" and played S.M.N.'s Stardust format. And on 2002-10-14, the call letters changed again to the current WFDL which aired Citadel's Timeless Favorites until that satellite format ended on February 15, 2010. On February 16, 2010, WFDL began airing "Hit Parade Radio" in certain day-parts.

From 1971 to July 1990, WLKE had an FM sister station at 99.3 FM, first known as WLKE-FM, which broadcast an in-house beautiful music format from 1971 to 1976. Then later the call letters were changed to WGGQ (99Q). 99Q was an automated station and played Drake-Chenault top-40 rock format "Hitparade" using reel to reel tapes from 1976 to 1981. The call letters were changed back to WLKE-FM from August 1981 to May 1984 and an automated country music was aired. Then in May 1984, the WGGQ call letters were brought back and 99Q was once again back on the air using S.M.N.'s All Hit Radio format (later renamed "The Heat" ) until July 1990.

The AM and FM then had separate ownership after July 1990, and 99.3 moved to 99.5 MHz and changed its city of license from Waupun to Ripon and later to Omro, Wisconsin. The current call letters for 99.5 are WPKR.[3]
