The Ice Storm is a 1997 soundtrack to the film of the same name starring Kevin Kline, Joan Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Tobey Maguire, Christina Ricci, and Elijah Wood. One of the noticeable features of The Ice Storm is its score. Most of the professional music featured in the film was independently produced 1970s-type music, as the budget was tight[citation needed], requiring most of it to be independent music. Lee and James Schamus wanted to have an "actual score"—not a "nostalgic film with radio music of an earlier time".[2] The soundtrack was first released in the United States on October 21, 1997.
