Steve McGarva
Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'strict' not found. Steve McGarva is the founder of a 501(c)(3) non profit organization called the Achates Legacy Rescue Foundation. Steve is well known for his dog rescue efforts in Puerto Rico.[1]
Rescues on Puerto Rico
Steve and his wife Pamela moved to Puerto Rico as expats through Pam's work[clarification needed]. Steve had planned to have some fun exploring the island with the many extreme sport activities he enjoys. Everything was heaven until he discovered the infamous "Dead dog beach". Steve discovered hundreds of stray dogs, most were starving, dehydrated and wore the visible scars of human abuse. The dogs had been abandoned at this beach with no food or fresh water. Steve depleted most of their life savings and spent most of his time helping to rehabilitate the dogs. To assist in the effort, he founded the Achates Legacy Rescue Foundation. Volunteers from all over the world help fight for the rights the dogs in Puerto Rico and Mexico.[2] McGarva eventually had to leave the Island after receiving several "death threats and even a few attempts".[citation needed] Steve's rescue efforts appeared in People Magazine[3] and on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.[4] McGarva continues his crusade to fight for animal rights and be the voice for those that can't speak for themselves. McGarva can be found working in Mexico and Puerto Rico hosting free spay and neuter campaigns for the locals and is completely in his element when working directly with the street strays and wrangling up the dogs to be sterilized and treated medically.
