Robert Michael Picciolo (born February 4, 1953) is a former Major League Baseball player. He played nine seasons in the major leagues, from 1977 to 1985, for the Oakland Athletics, Milwaukee Brewers, and California Angels. He was primarily a shortstop, but also played at third base and second base.
Picciolo was notorious for not drawing bases on balls. In 1,628 major league at bats, he walked only 25 times.
Picciolo is the longest-tenured coach in San Diego Padres history, serving 16 consecutive years between 1990 and 2005. From 2006 to 2010, he served as the Angels' roving infield instructor.[1] He was named the Angels' bench coach on November 10, 2010.[1] He was fired by the Angels on October 8, 2013.[2]
He has two sons, Breton and Dustin Picciolo. Both sons attended Pepperdine University in Malibu, California.
