Reitmans Ltd. is a Canadian retailing company, specializing in women's clothing. It was founded in 1926 by Herman and Sarah Reitman, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The immediate success of the first store on Saint Lawrence Boulevard (boulevard Saint-Laurent) prompted the Reitmans to open a second store which sold exclusively women's clothing.
At the end of January, 2011, Reitmans operated 968 stores organized into seven operating chains: Reitmans (364 stores), Smart Set (158 stores), R.W. & Company (67 stores), Thyme Maternity (75 stores), Cassis (22 stores), Penningtons (161 stores) and Addition-Elle (121 stores). The company operates stores in every province and territory in Canada.[2] For the fiscal year ended January 29, 2011, net earnings were $87,021,000 on sales of $1,070,277,000(See Annual Report and filings on the TSX)
Motto
Reitmans' motto is "Fits your beautiful", changed from Designed for real life. In fall 2004, Reitmans used this slogan to advertise, saying: "Life is a catwalk. Have fun with it!".[3]
Officers
Jeremy Reitman currently serves as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Reitman as President and Chief Operating Officer, Henry Fiederer as Senior Vice-president of the Corporation, Nadia Cerantola as President of the Reitman Division, Eric Williams as Vice-President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer, Allen Rubin as Vice President Operations and Isabelle Oliva as Vice President Human Resources. Brian Lindy is the Executive Vice President.
Reitmans divisions
Reitmans operates 968 stores organized into seven operating chains aimed at different market segments.[4]
Reitmans is Canada's largest women's clothing speciality chain. There are 364 Reitmans stores, with stores in all ten provinces and two of Canada's three territories.
Smart Set caters to women aged 25 to 35. The chain offers a range of styles from workwear to activewear to casual clothing. There were 107 Smart Set stores, with stores in all ten provinces. Reitmans announced in 2014 that the brand would be shuttered and all its stores would be closed or renamed by the end of 2015.[5]
R.W. & Company caters to men and women aged 18 to 30. It is the only chain in the Reitmans group that caters to both women and men. There are 67 RW & Co stores, with stores located in every province except Prince Edward Island.
Penningtons caters to plus sized women. The chain offers career, casual clothing, underwear and accessories. There are 161 Penningtons stores, with stores located in all ten provinces.
Thyme Maternity caters to pregnant women. There are 75 Thyme Maternity stores, with stores in every province except Newfoundland and Prince Edward Island.
Addition Elle, Addition Elle is for plus sized women.
