Odisha is a state located on the east coast of India, by the Bay of Bengal. It is bound by West Bengal to the north-east, Jharkhand to the north, Chattisgarh to the north-west and Andhra Pradesh to the south. The region that is now Odisha was a stronghold of Buddhism and ruled by a number of kingdoms in ancient times, notable among which was Kalinga. Under British rule, the region was divided between the presidencies of Madras and Bengal and the Central Provinces. These regions were united to form the province of Odisha on April 1, 1936. Odisha is famous for its temples such as the Jagannath temple at Puri and Sun temple at Konark and for its beaches. The western part of Odisha is hilly and covered by forests inhabited by Adivasis. The Jagannath Temple in Puri is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to Jagannath (Krishna) and located in the coastal town of Puri in the state of Orissa, India. The name Jagannath (Lord of the Universe) is a combination of the Sanskrit words Jagat (Universe) and Nath (Lord of). The temple is an important pilgrimage destination for many Hindu traditions, particularly worshippers of Krishna and Vishnu. The temple is famous for its annual Rath Yatra, or chariot festival, in which the three main temple deities are hauled on huge and elaborately decorated chariots. Since medieval times, it is also associated with intense religious fervor. The temple is sacred to the Vaishnava traditions and saint Ramananda who was closely associated with the temple. Sir Annepu Parasuramdas Patro KCIE (Oriya: ଅନ୍ନେପୁ ପରସୁରମ୍ଦସ ପତ୍ରୋ) (1875 or 1876-1946) was an Oriya politician, zamindar and education minister in the erstwhile Madras Presidency. Patro was born in a rich and powerful family of Berhampur, Madras Presidency. He did his schooling in Berhampur and graduated in law from Madras Christian College. Patro actively participated in the Oriya Movement and was a member of the Indian National Congress and later, the Justice Party. In 1920, he was elected to the Madras Legislative Council and served as the Minister of Public Works and Education from 1921 to 1926. In 1937, Patro was elected to the Orissa Legislative Council. He served as Speaker of the Assembly for a short time until his death in 1946. It was during Patro's tenure that the Andhra University was established. Patro was also responsible for creating the existing administrative system of Madras University.

The Bonda or Bondo are an ancient tribe of people numbering approximately 5000 who live in the isolated hill regions of the Malkangiri district of southwesternmost Orissa, India, near the junction of the three states of Orissa, Chhattisgarh, and Andhra Pradesh. The Bonda are a scheduled tribe of India and are also known as Remo (meaning "people" in the Bonda language), Bhonda, Bondo, or Bondo Poraja.
