Paik Hak Soon was born on June 15, 1954, in Boseong, Jeollanam-do, South Korea. Paik is currently the director of Inter-Korean Relations Studies Program and the director of the Center for North Korean Studies at the Sejong Institute in Korea.
Paik is currently a policy advisor to South Korea's Ministry of Unification and the head of the Ministry's Policy Evaluation Committee. He is also a policy advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and the Office of Inter-Korean Exchanges and Cooperation for the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS). In addition, he is a news commentator for KBS, the Executive Director of the Seoul-Washington Forum, and the Vice President of the Korean Political Science Association. Paik frequently contributes to various South Korean and international news media.
