Nigea Carter (born September 1, 1974) is a former wide receiver for Michigan State Spartans football team.[1] In his total of 4 years (1993-1996) of playing with Michigan State, he had a total of 81 receptions, 1,413 receiving yards, and 10 touchdowns.[2]
College choice
Carter's first choice for college was the University of Tennessee not Michigan State. He was going to go there on a football scholarship but Carter concluded by saying "I thought it over and concluded that I really felt more comfortable at Michigan State.``[3]
Notable games
In 1995 – v. Michigan – Tony Banks led an 88-yard drive and threw the winning touchdown to Nigea Carter with 1:24 left in the game to win 28–25 over No. 7 ranked Michigan.[4] In October 29, 1994 v. Indiana, Nigea caught a 93 pass reception to the touchdown. They would later win 27-21.[5]
NFL Draft
Carter was the 197 pick in round six of the 1997 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.[6][7] Unfortunately Nigea never played a down for the Buccaneers due to injury.
Life after football
Carter lives with his wife and two children. He helps out coaching the local middle school football team were his son goes to school and plays football for.
