Muxima is a town and commune in the municipality of Quiçama, Luanda Province, Angola.[1] It was founded in 1599 by the Portuguese. Muxima means "heart" in Kimbundu. It is the site of a Marian shrine.
History
It was founded by the Portuguese in 1599.
The image of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, better known as Nossa Senhora da Muxima, is the most popular in Angola and in the whole of África, receiving annually more than 1 million pilgrims. On the 27th October 2013, during the holy mass, was the aim of an attempt of destruction, suffering some reparable damages.[2]
