Surrounding area

During the period between 1650 and 1873, the area was the location of the Kotsukappara execution grounds. Between 100,000 and 200,000 people died here during the Tokugawa era. Near the south exit of the Tokyo Metro station, a small temple and burial ground commemorates this. Part of the burial grounds currently lie beneath the Hibiya Line tracks.[citation needed]

There are many cheap hotels in the area.[citation needed]
