PhDr. Lubomír Zaorálek (born 6 September 1956 in Ostrava[1]) is a Czech politician and since 29 January 2014 he is serving as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka.

Early life

He was born on 6 September 1956 in Ostrava and graduated Jan Evangelista Purkyně University (today Masaryk University) in Brno in 1982.[2] He worked as a dramaturge at Czechoslovak Television in Ostrava.[3]

Political career

During Velvet Revolution in November 1989 he participated at Civic Forum.[4]

Zaorálek was first elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 1996 as member of political party ČSSD and later in 2009 he has become first vice chairman. In 2013, he also was Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic

He has been Minister of Foreign Affairs since 29 January 2014 in the Cabinet of ČSSD leader and Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Bohuslav Sobotka. He is the 10th Minister of Foreign Affairs since its creation in 1993.[5]
