Kentucky Route 1749 is a 11.12-mile-long (17.90 km) east–west state route that traverses two counties in west-central Kentucky. It traverses through mainly rural areas of southwestern Edmonson and north-central Warren counties.

Route description

KY 1749 begins at an intersection with KY 185 just short of the Butler County line marked by the Green River in this part of Warren County. It enters Edmonson County about 1.55 miles later. It passes through the unincorporated community of Wingfield. KY 1749 ends just west of Chalybeate at an intersection with KY 743, another rural secondary route in the two aforementioned counties. KY 1749's eastern terminus is 0.152 miles (0.245 km) north of the Warren County line.

History

The first 1.2 miles (1.9 km) of KY 1749 and the first 11.8 miles (19.0 km) of KY 185 in Warren County, along with Mouth of Bear Creek Road and the latter part of the current KY 655 in Edmonson County was originally part of a former, original route that connected Bowling Green with western Edmonson County directly via a toll ferry across the Green River where Edmonson County meets Butler and Warren counties. It was originally signed KY 67. The Bear Creek Ferry was operated by the state between the 1930s and the mid-1960s when the ferry bonds were paid off and discontinued. As a result, the original KY 67 has been removed by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) in 1967-68. KY 1749 existed as a local back road during that time period.
