Career

Minor Leagues

In 2008, he played in the Toronto Blue Jays organization and was released after the season. He then signed a minor league contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

San Francisco Giants

On September 1, 2012, Machi was called up by the Giants after serving as the closer for the Fresno Grizzlies, San Francisco's Triple-A affiliate. [1] On September 3, Machi made his major league debut, against the Arizona Diamondbacks, pitching a perfect inning.[2]

At the start of the 2014 season, Machi picked up three relief wins in his team's first 15 games, becoming the first Giants pitcher to do so since Bob Shaw in 1964.[3]

Boston Red Sox

On July 20, 2015, Machi was designated for assignment by the Giants. He was claimed off waivers by the Boston Red Sox on July 28. In order to make room for Machi on the 40-man roster, starter Clay Buchholz was transferred from the 15- to the 60-day disabled list. He elected free agency on November 6, 2015.[4]

Chicago Cubs

On December 14, 2015, Machi signed a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training with the Chicago Cubs.
