Jagadbandhu Institution (Bengali: জগদ্বন্ধু ইনস্টিটিউশন; Audio file "Jagadbandhu_Institution_pronunciation.ogg" not found) is a school for boys in South Kolkata, West Bengal, India, affiliated to the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education for Madhyamik Pariksha (10th Board exams) and to the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education for Higher Secondary Examination (12th Board exams).

History

Jagadbandhu Institution is a Bengali medium of South Kolkata. The school was established by Jagadbandhu Roy in 1914 at 25 Fern Road, Kolkata-19.[1] Sir Ashutosh Mukherjee laid the foundation stone on 11 January 1914. The first president and vice-president of the school were Asutosh Choudhury and Rai Bahadur Ramtaran Banerjee.[2] The first secretary was Rajendra Bidyabhusan.[3]

Student life

  • Sanchari (Bengali: সঞ্চারী) is an annual Bengali magazine where students and teachers submit their writings.
  • The school publishes a periodical for ex-students in Bengali, for ex-students of the school, named Kheya (Bengali: খেয়া).
  • The school has a cricket and football training center. The school organizes sports competitions and students participate in inter-city sport competitions.
  • Students are encouraged to participate in cultural activities especially singing, recitation and drawing.
  • For students of class eleven and twelve (Science and Commerce) the school organizes an annual excursion.
