Biography
Ian Kerner is a nationally-recognized sexuality counselor and New York Times best-selling author. He writes a popular column for CNN and can often be seen on the Today Show and The Dr. Oz Show among others. Kerner is certified by the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT) and addresses issues that are common to the "American bedroom". He frequently lectures on topics related to human sexuality, with recent appearances at New York University, Yale and Princeton. Kerner was born and raised in New York City, where he lives with his wife and two sons.
Books
Kerner is the author of She Comes First: the Thinking Man's Guide to Pleasuring a Woman. Amy Sohn in the New York Times called this book "the Encyclopaedia Britannica of the clitoris," though Kerner himself refers to Strunk and White's "Elements of Style" as the model for making a subject not only meaningful and understandable, but also beautiful.[2] Sohn went on to say that "...with a cool sense of humor and an obsessive desire to inform, he encourages men through an act that many find mystifying." [3] She Comes First was selected by both Amazon.com and Borders as a "Best of 2004" non-fiction title and has been translated into numerous languages around the world. The companion book He Comes Next: the Thinking Woman's Guide to Pleasuring a Man was published in 2005. Kerner also wrote the New York Times bestseller Be Honest, You're Not That Into Him Either, and the 2006 D.S.I. Date Scene Investigation: the Diagnostic Manual of Dating Disorders.
All his works have been published by ReganBooks, an imprint of Harper Collins. He also contributed a chapter on how to have a satisfying sex life for the Experts Guide to Life at Home (Random House).
Television
Kerner has appeared frequently on The Today Show as well as Good Morning America, CNN's Anderson Cooper 360°, Headline News and Paula Zahn Now, Dateline NBC, the CBS Early Show, Fox News, MSNBC, The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch and Strictly Sex with Dr. Drew, among other programs. He recently co-hosted a television series for the Discovery Health Channel entitled Love On The Rocks, and also appeared as a guest life-coach on NBC's Starting Over.
Radio and magazines
Kerner contributed regularly to Cosmopolitan Magazine, as well as having penned its online sex-advice column and having hosted a weekly call-in show on Cosmo Radio for the Sirius Satellite Radio. Additionally, Kerner has been featured in pages of Men's Health, O Magazine, Redbook, Maxim and the New York Times to name a few, and he has been a guest on Howard Stern, the Laura Berman Show and The Wendy Williams Experience.
Public speaking
In addition to meeting regularly with patients, Kerner lectured nationally on a variety of subjects related to sex and relationships. Some appearances include: The Organization of Women Leaders at Princeton University, human sexuality classes at Indiana University, the W Hotel's Wonderland Series, the 92nd Street Y in New York City, and Sex Week at Yale University.
Kerner is certified to counsel patients by the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists ("AASECT") and is a Diplomate in Sex Therapy of the American Board of Sexology. He is also a member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, the International Society for the Study of Women's Sexual Health and The Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality ("SSIS").
Kerner is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Brandeis University, and also holds advanced degrees from New York University and the American Academy of Clinical Sexologists, an unaccredited for-profit university. He is a former Thomas J. Watson Fellow and a recipient of the Erwin J. Haberle Award in Clinical Sexology.
