IBM Research – Ireland
IBM Research – Ireland is one of IBM Research's twelve worldwide research laboratories,[1] a first for the European Union[2] and the only one which focuses on smarter technology for cities.
Opened in 2011 in Damastown Industrial Park, in the north-west of Dublin, Ireland,[3] it conducts research on such critical resources as water, energy, and marine environments, as well transportation, city fabric, risk, and exascale computing.[3]
The Smarter Cities Technology Centre at IBM Research – Ireland represents an IDA Ireland - supported investment of up to EUR 66 million. A many as 200 new jobs are hoped to be created.[4]

Staff
The lab is directed by senior managers with significant experience at IBM's Thomas J. Watson Research Center, with staff from institutions which include the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Cambridge University, the Australian National University, and Trinity College Dublin.[3]
It conducts collaborative research with top universities, cities, and industry partners advancing science and technology for intelligent urban and environmental systems.
