Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam (born February 18, 1984) is a Cameroonian-French professional boxer and former WBO middleweight champion.[1] He is currently ranked by The Ring magazine at #7 in the middleweight division.[2]
Contents
Amateur
Ndam Njikam won the silver medal in the Middleweight division in 2003, at the All-Africa Games in Abuja, Nigeria losing to Ramadan Yasser 6:13.[3]
He participated in the 2004 Summer Olympics for his native African country. There he beat both PanAm champion Juan Ubaldo and Andy Lee on razor-thin countback decisions but was defeated in the quarterfinals of the Middleweight (75 kg) division by Russia's eventual winner Gaydarbek Gaydarbekov.[3]
His amateur record was 77-4-3.[3]
Professional career
He turned pro in 2004 in France and won his first 24 fights.[1] He eventually captured the interim WBA World Middleweight title against Avtandil Khurtsidze on October 30, 2010.[4] On April 2, 2011, N'Dam N'Jikam defended his interim belt against Giovanni Lorenzo via unanimous decision victory despite being dropped in the fifth round, the scores were 119-110, 116-110 and 119-109.[5] On March 4, 2012, N'Jikam would defeat Max Bursak by unanimous decision for the WBO Interim Middleweight belt.
N'Jikam vs Quillin
On October 20, 2012, N'Dam would face off against hard hitting middleweight contender Peter Quillin for the WBO Middleweight title. Despite outboxing Quillin for long stretches, Quillin's power would be the deciding factor in the bout as he would drop N'Jikam twice in rounds 2, 7, and 12 respectively, resulting in lopsided scores for the undefeated contender.
N'Jikam vs Stevens
Following two unanimous decision victories over middling opposition, N'Jikam would be given the opportunity to fight for a title eliminator against hard hitting middleweight contender Curtis Stevens. Stevens had recently lost to WBA Middleweight Champion Gennady Golovkin after getting beaten down over eight rounds, but additionally had won his two following bouts against Patrick Majewski and Tureano Johnson. N'Jikam dominated the bout, preventing Stevens from ever getting in range of landing his signature left hook, and even dropping the durable contender in the 8th round. N'Jikam would win the bout via a wide unanimous decision.
