Gurf Morlix is an American multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, songwriter and record producer residing for many years in Austin, Texas. He has worked with many of the best-known performers of Americana, roots rock and alternative country music. His most notable works include his contributions to albums by Lucinda Williams, Robert Earl Keen, Mary Gauthier, Ian McLagan, Ray Wylie Hubbard, and Slaid Cleaves. He plays the guitar, bass, mandolin, mandocello, dobro, pedal steel, Weissenborn, banjo, harmonica, and drums. He is a member of the Austin Music Awards Hall of Fame (2004) and the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame (2005) and was the Americana Music Association Instrumentalist of the Year in 2009.

Career
Originally from Buffalo, New York, Morlix moved to Texas in 1975 and performed with Blaze Foley in Austin and Houston. He moved to Los Angeles in 1981, where he met Lucinda Williams, another Texas-based musician who had moved there. He became her accompanist for 11 years (1985 to 1996) and produced two of her records, Lucinda Williams and its follow-up, Sweet Old World. Morlix was involved in the preliminary work on her next album, Car Wheels on a Gravel Road, but left the project in frustration over repeated delays in the release of the album;[1] the album was released in 1998, produced by Steve Earle and Ray Kennedy. In 1990, Morlix accompanied Warren Zevon on tour. He moved back to Austin in 1991. In the 2000s, he was a member of Ian McLagan's Bump Band.
