Give Up the Ghost is the third studio album by American singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile, released on October 6, 2009, through Columbia Records.[1][7][8] The album was produced by Grammy Award winner Rick Rubin and contains a collaboration with Elton John titled "Caroline".[8] Recorded at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles, the album also features Chad Smith, Amy Ray and Benmont Tench.[7]

"Dreams", the first single from the album, was released on Carlile's website on August 14, and was available for download on August 18.

Television exposure

The single "Dreams" featured in a promo for the ABC television show The Deep End in January 2010, and in the same year, was featured by Walt Disney Animation Studios as the background music of the countdown montage to their 50th animated feature, Tangled.

The song "Oh Dear" appeared in the Grey's Anatomy episode "I Like You So Much Better When You're Naked", which aired on January 21, 2010; "Before It Breaks" featured in the "Invest in Love" episode of Grey's Anatomy, the pilot episode of Covert Affairs on the USA Network as well as the pilot episode of The Fosters on ABC Family.

The National Geographic Channel in Latin America chose "If There Was No You" as the jingle to promote Great Migrations (Grandes Migraciones), which began broadcasting in November 2010. Walt Disney Animation featured "Dreams" in a montage showcasing their 50 animated pictures on the DVD of Tangled.

In 2010, Brandi Carlile was nominated for a GLAAD Media Award for "Outstanding Music Artist" for the album Give Up the Ghost during the 21st GLAAD Media Awards.[9]
