Concept and design

Uttar Pradesh Government established the University in 2008 in Lucknow to provide access to higher education to all, especially for persons with disabilities, in a barrier-free environment. The accessibility of higher education to differently-abled students was previously limited and low.

The institution is based on the concept of inclusive and integrated education, and social inclusion of people with disabilities. The university reserves 50% of places in all courses for persons with disability.

The university has a barrier-free green campus. It adopts an inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary approach, and attempts to cope with the special needs of disabled persons. Faculty are encouraged to enhance their subject knowledge enhancement and improve research capabilities.

To cope with national and international standards of teaching and research, the course curriculum has been designed so as to make them globally comparable and acceptable. Moreover, the university has a very explicit and internationally recognized system of internal assessment and exam system.

For economic empowerment of persons with disability, professional courses are functional in the institution. The university intends to expend its in-house capabilities by introducing more professional and job-oriented courses that are compatible with industry needs in the coming years. A higher education institute is known by its quality research, therefore, this institution is also committed to produce quality research with particular focus in the field of disability and build up all its parameters on international guidelines.

The central focus is on professional and job-oriented courses and skill enhancement.
