History
Following their review of parliamentary representation in Derbyshire, the Boundary Commission for England created a new constituency of Derbyshire Dales which is almost coterminous with the previous seat of West Derbyshire.
Constituency profile
The constituency is geographically large. Most of its area is in the Peak District National Park, including its main settlements of Ashbourne, Bakewell and Matlock. It was fought for the first time at the 2010 general election and is represented by Conservative Patrick McLoughlin, the Secretary of State for Transport. This constituency and its predecessor West Derbyshire have been represented by Conservative MPs since 1986.
Boundaries
The seat is made up of the entire district of Derbyshire Dales and the wards of Alport, Crich and South West Parishes in the district of Amber Valley.
