Coke Studio India, officially titled Coke Studio @ MTV, is an Indian television series, which features live studio-recorded music performances by various artists. Coke Studio combines myriad musical influences, from Hindustani, Carnatic and Indian folk, to contemporary hip hop, rock and pop music.[1] It is one of the most popular music programmes in South Asia.

Season One premièred on 17 June 2011 on MTV India at 7 pm.[2] Season 2 premièred on 7 July 2012 on MTV India at 7 pm and on Doordarshan (DD National) at 8:30 pm.[3] Season 3 premièred 17 August 2013 on MTV India and Big FM at 8 pm simultaneously and at 9 pm on Doordarshan. Season 3 also premièred on All India Radio at 4 pm on 24 August 2013.[4][Note 1]
Season 4 premièred on 1 March 2015 at 8 pm.

Season 1

Each hour-long episode of the Coke Studio At MTV featured 6 songs and a diverse mix of music from alternative genres including Carnatic and Hindustani, compositions by new musicians, recreated Bollywood tracks, and a special song created on the show. This season had a total of 10 episodes including 1 showing the best of Coke Studio Season 1.[2]

Coke Studio Minicerts

These were a series of off air initiatives undertaken by Coca-Cola India and MTV, in which they organized 10 Coke Studio@MTV Minicerts (miniature concerts) across India. The Coke Studio musical caravan toured the country and was composed of prominent artists such as Kailash Kher, Tochi Raina, Harshdeep, Angaraag Mahanta, Mathangi, Sanjeev T and Lesle Lewis.

The mini concerts began in Mumbai on 29 July 2011 and there were shows in Delhi, Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chennai, Jaipur, Chandigarh and Guwahati.

Season 2

The 2nd season officially aired from 7 July 2012 on MTV India & Doordarshan. Every episode featured a music composer with his own composed tracks. This season also had a total of 10 episodes including 2 showing the best of Coke Studio Season 2.[3]

After the season two, a minicert was held at Rendezvous 2012, an annual cultural festival of IIT Delhi featuring Shilpa Rao, Papon & Advaita from 19–22 October 2012. The song Husna was featured in the Global Indian Music Academy Awards 2012. A minicert was held at Hard Rock Cafe, Hyderabad on 23 November 2012, featuring Amit Trivedi, Hari Singh & Sukhmani Malik. Again a minicert was held at Hard Rock Cafe, New Delhi on 30 November 2012, featuring Papon & Amit Trivedi.

Coke Studio Megacert at LPU

Magic and excitement casted its spell on the campus of Lovely Professional University (LPU), as it staged the maiden performance of Coke Studio@MTV, one of India's most loved and popular fusion music properties established by Coca-Cola India. Over 20,000 music lovers witnessed incredible performances by an ensemble of versatile and multi-talented artists such as Papon, Clinton Cerejo, Sonu Kakkar, Sawan Khan etc.The crowd was seen swaying to the rhythm and crooning along to the lyrics of popular tracks of Mtv coke Studio. This was the first time that Coke Studio came to Jalandhar as it was first Coke Studio performance in Punjab.and the excitement amongst music revelers was palpable in the Megacert.

Artists enthralled the huge crowd with enchanting compositions from season 2 of the fusion music property. MTV VJ Anushka hosted the event.

Season 3

Season 3 started to be aired from 17 August 2013 at MTV. First full song was published on 1 August 2013. It's named as "Zariya" and was composed by A. R. Rahman.[6] Second full song "Bismillah" by Salim Suleiman was published on 8 August 2013 on the eve of Eid.[7] Third song, again by A. R. Rahman named "Jagao mere des ko" was published on 14 August 2013, on the eve of Independence Day of India.[8] On 22 August 2013 "Kattey" by Ram Sampath was published. It is the fourth song which was published online before being aired on TV.[9]

There will be total ten episodes of season each having one composer, including A. R. Rahman, Amit Trivedi, Papon, Clinton Cerejo, Ram Sampath, Hitesh Sonik, Salim-Sulaiman.[4]

Coke Studio Concerts

After the season two, a concert was held at Chaos, an annual cultural festival of IIM Ahmedabad featuring Ram Sampath, Sona Mohapatra on 28 December 2013. The concert was the biggest concert of Coke Studio so far attracting a crowd of around 12000 People[citation needed]

Coke Studio Megacert was held on 9 November 2014 at Xpressions'14, the annual B-School fest of Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar. This show featured the renowned composer Amit Trivedi is the biggest live concert in eastern India ever. After XIMB, it was organized at IIM Lucknow's fest Varchasva 2014 where Javed Ali performed and enthralled the audience.[citation needed]

Also, there is going to be a Coke Studio Megacert at Youth Vibe 2014, the Annual Global Youth Fest of Lovely Professional University, featuring Ram Sampath, Sona Mohapatra and Vijay Prakash on 14 November 2014. This is the second time Coke Studio is performing at Lovely Professional University.

On 17th October 2015 Coke Studio held a concert in Jaipur featuring artist such as Amit trivedi, Ram Sampath & Sona Mohapatra.
