Africa's Next Top Model is a reality television show in which a number of women compete for the title of Africa's Next Top Model and a chance to start their career in the modeling industry. The show is hosted by supermodel Oluchi Onweagba, and features aspiring models from a wide variety of countries all over the African continent.[1][2][3][4][5]
On October 26, 2013, a single photograph featuring the official contestants was released on the show's official website. The website later revealed that the countries represented in the competition would be Angola, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, South Africa, Tunisia, and Uganda.[6] The series began to air on November 10, 2013. The first ever winner of the competition was 20 year-old Aamito Lagum, who represented Uganda.
A second season is currently in pre-production.[6][7] Audition venues and dates for season two have yet to be revealed.

Controversy
West Africa's Next Top Model
Some years prior to the creation of Africa's Next Top Model, a similar adaptation had already been planned. It was originally titled West Africa's Next Top Model and would have featured contestants originating from the West African countries of Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Senegal, Liberia and Nigeria. The competition was also supposed to be hosted by Oluchi Onweagba. Auditions were scheduled to occur on:[8][9]
- March 9 at the Arriva Hotel in Port Harcourt
- March 11 at the Mediterranean Recreation Center in Abuja
- March 14 at the True Love Magazine Office Convention Centre in Lagos
Auditions began in March 2009, but due to unknown reasons, the show never aired and was left without any TV station. No contestants were ever chosen to compete on the show. Oluchi later went on to host Africa's Next Top Model in 2014. In contrast to West Africa's Next Top Model, the new version allowed applicants from all over the continent.
On February 12, 2016, a federal high court in Abuja, Nigeria dismissed preliminary objections regarding a ₦780 billion copyright lawsuit by Chudi Charles (CEO of International Pageant and Films) against Oluchi Onweagba for infringing on his West Africa's Next Top Model trademark, which he had registered in 2003; a reason why the first planned adaptation likely never aired. After filing a lawsuit against Onweagba, as well as the Nigerian Copyrights Commission, Etisalat Nigeria, Guinness Nigeria Plc, Mtech, Multichoice Nigeria, and CBS, Onweagba and the other defendants filed an objection in which they argued that they had obtained the rights to host Africa's Next Top Model from Tyra Banks, the executive producer and host of America's Next Top Model. The objection was dismissed after the defendants were unable to produce a superior title to back up their claims of ownership.[10]
