The 2016 World Cup of Golf is a golf tournament that will be played from 24–27 November at Kingston Heath Golf Club in Melbourne, Australia.[1] It will be the 58th World Cup.[2] Twenty-eight countries will compete as two-player teams.[3] The format is 72-hole stroke play; the first and third days are four-ball play, and the second and fourth days are alternate shot. This is a return to the format used in 2011.

Qualification

Jason Day, the individual champion of the 2013 World Cup of Golf, will qualify automatically, representing Australia, and will be allowed to select his partner as defined below. One player each from 27 other countries will qualify based on his position in the Official World Golf Ranking on 1 August 2016. These players must commit to play in the event by 12 August.[3]

The 28 exempt players will select a partner from the same country, if such a player is ranked in the top 100 of the OWGR on either 1 August or 22 August. If no other player from that country is ranked in the top 100, the next-highest-ranked available player from that country as of 22 August will be the exempt player's partner. However, if no other players from that country are in the top 500, the player may select any professional from the same country regardless of world ranking. The deadline for teams to be finalized is 26 August 2016.
