It was Dani Pedrosa achieved his first victory of the season since the 2014 Czech Republic Grand Prix — his 50th Grand Prix win in his career, becoming the eighth rider to reach that mark. The victory ensured that Pedrosa completed a fourteenth successive season with at least one win. Valentino Rossi extended his championship lead to eighteen with a second-place finish in drying conditions.
Alex de Angelis crashed heavily during the MotoGP fourth free practice session on Saturday and was taken to a hospital in a critical but stable condition. The session was eventually red flagged.[3]
In the intermediate class, Johann Zarco took his seventh victories of the season. The victory ensured that Zarco clinch his first world championship title with three race to spare; his rival Tito Rabat withdraw from the race during his injured while free practice session. Behind Zarco, was two German riders — Jonas Folger took his third podium of the season with second place since Jerez, and Sandro Cortese took his first podium with third-place finish since the 2014 Czech Republic Grand Prix.
