Shunem

Shunem (Hebrew: <templatestyles src="Script/styles_hebrew.css" />שׁוּנֵם; Douay-Rheims: Sunam) is a small village mentioned in the Bible. It was located in the tribe of Issachar, to the north of Jezreel and south of Mount Gilboa Joshua 19,18.
Shunem is where:
- The Philistines encamped when they came against Saul, the first king of Israel; 1Samuel 28,4
- Where Abishag, King David's companion in his old age, came from; 1Kings 1,1 and
- Where the prophet Elisha was hospitably entertained by a rich woman whose son Elisha later revived after the son died. 2Kings 4,8
Shunem is listed as a town conquered by the Egyptian pharaohs Thutmose III and Shoshenk I.[1]
Shunem may be identified as the modern village of Sulam.[1]
