Mouldsworth railway station serves the village of Mouldsworth in Cheshire, England. It is managed by Northern Rail.

Train services run between Manchester Piccadilly and Chester.

History

Services used to run to the CLC terminus at Chester Northgate, but were diverted to the former Chester General after Northgate closed in October 1969.[citation needed]

The station used to be a request stop but this status was removed some years ago.[when?]

The signal box here was decommissioned and demolished in 2006,[1] control of the line then passing to Mickle Trafford box. The station was once a junction, the line to Chester diverging to the west and the original West Cheshire Railway line to Helsby and Alvanley to the north west. The Helsby line was lifted during the early 2000s, several years after a fire at the West Cheshire Junction signal box at the other end of the line rendered the junction there unusable (the line officially closing in September 1991).[2]

Services

There is a basic hourly service in each direction Monday to Saturday, with two additional weekday peak trains to and from Stockport. On Sundays there is a two-hourly service each way, with eastbound trains running through to Manchester, Wigan Wallgate and Southport.
