The folklore of England's north east and Scotland's Border have been connected for centuries partly because the two were connected under the Kingdom of Norþanhymbre or Norþhymbre (Northumbria) and then kept changing between England and Scotland, and partly because of cross-border contact. The border between England and Scotland is thought largely political rather than cultural. [1]
