Artem Dolgopyat (Hebrew: ארטיום דולגופיאט‎; born June 16, 1997) is an Israeli artistic gymnast. At the 2017 World Championships, he won the silver medal on floor exercise.

Personal life

Dolgopyat was born on June 16, 1997 in Dnipro, Ukraine. At age 6 he was enrolled in gymnastics. In 2009 he moved with his family to Israel where he was a part of the gymnastics team of Maccabi Tel Aviv. He serves in the Israeli Defence Force base of Tel HaShomer. [1]

Career

At the age of 17, he took part of the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics and finished 5th on Vault, 8th on Floor Exercise and 10th on Individual all-around.

On 19 September 2015, he competed in 'Grand Prix Osijek' in Croatia and won the gold medal on floor exercise.[2] Later that year, he won the floor exercise in the Israeli Championship for the first time and defeated Alexander Shatilov.

On 22 April 2017, Dolgopyat competed for his first time in the European Championships and finished 4th on floor exercise.[3] On 20 May, he won the silver medal in 2017 Grand Prix Osijek after scoring 14.700. On July 2017, he participated in the Maccabiah Games where he won two gold medals on floor exercise and pommel horse, and a bronze medal on vault.[4]

On 7 October 2017, At the 2017 World Championships held in Montreal, Dolgopyat won the silver medal on floor exercise after scoring 14.533.[5] He became the second Israeli gymnast to win a medal in gymnastics world championships (after Alex Shatilov) and the first to win a silver medal.
