Almeda Mall is a shopping mall located in the Southeast side of Houston, Texas on Interstate 45. The mall opened in 1966.

The mall has 782,353 square feet (72,683.0 m2) in leasable space.[1]

History

Almeda was the premiere mall for the area southeast of Houston until 1978 when Baybrook Mall opened a few exits south, much closer to the affluent Clear Lake/NASA area. Baybrook quickly replaced Almeda as the area's highly successful mall, and Almeda went into decline.

In 2006, the mall was about 95% occupied. During that year Glimcher Realty Trust put the mall up for sale, along with the Northwest Mall.[1]

Anchor stores

  • Macy's formerly known as Foley's. The original Foley's building was two story, and in existence from 1966 until 2008. After Hurricane Ike, the building suffered considerable damage. Macy's (which purchased Foley's and changed all Foley's to the Macy's name in 2006) decided the damage was so extensive that they spent a year rebuilding. Using the existing exterior walls, they constructed a new one story, 147,000 square foot store. The new Macy's opened in September 2009.
