divisions was expanded to 22. - ↑ 5.0 5.1 The official Football League records originally showed Birmingham in 5th place and Arsenal in 6th place. In 1975 it was discovered that an error in the calculation of Goal Average had been made and the table was corrected.
- ↑ It is said that Sir Henry Norris arranged for the Arsenal's promotion back to the First Division, in controversial circumstances.
- ↑ Glossop failed to be re-elected to the Football League, never to return again. A resurrected Stoke, along with Coventry City,
South Shields, Rotherham County and West Ham United joined the Second Division after the war.
