Flying Officer H. J. G. Haeusler of the Royal New Zealand Air Force died aged 24 on 9 November 1942 when his aircraft crashed between <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Tv%C3%B8royri" title="Tvøroyri">Tvøroyri</a> and <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Hvalba" title="Hvalba">Hvalba</a> on <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Su%C3%B0uroy" title="Suðuroy">Suðuroy</a>, <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Faroe_Islands" class="mw-redirect" title="Faroe Islands">Faroe Islands</a>. The Faroes had been occupied by British forces since 1940 after <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Denmark" class="mw-redirect" title="Denmark">Denmark</a> had been invaded by <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Germany" class="mw-redirect" title="Germany">Germany</a>. His grave is near <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Airport_V%C3%A1gar" class="mw-redirect" title="Airport Vágar">Airport Vágar</a>.
