<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/en:Kala_Patthar" class="extiw" title="w:en:Kala Patthar">Kala Patthar</a> is the best and closest viewpoint of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/en:Mount_Everest" class="extiw" title="w:en:Mount Everest">Mount Everest</a> that is achievable without having mountaineering skills. At a peak altitude of 5550m, the air is thin - 50% of what is at sea level. The slightest exertion going uphill will send your lungs gasping for air. We woke up early on a foggy Sunday, May 8 to ascend it. Our guide said it was about -10 to -15C. We were freezing. But alas, we fought on to be at one of the highest places on the planet... and to be next to Mount Everest.
