Picture of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MV_Mississippi#Mississippi_III" class="extiw" title="en:MV Mississippi">Becky Thatcher</a> (also known as Mississippi III) docked at <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neville_Island" class="extiw" title="en:Neville Island">Neville Island</a> in <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allegheny_County,_Pennsylvania" class="extiw" title="en:Allegheny County, Pennsylvania">Allegheny County, Pennsylvania</a>, on October 17, 2009. The boat, assembled in 1927 (though parts of it were circa 1899), was the last of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_(nautical)" class="extiw" title="en:Texas (nautical)">Texas-deck</a> <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paddle_steamer" class="extiw" title="en:Paddle steamer">sternwheelers</a>, and was listed on the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Register_of_Historic_Places_listings_in_Allegheny_County,_Pennsylvania" class="extiw" title="en:National Register of Historic Places listings in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania">National Register of Historic Places</a>. It was originally thought that on the night of February 19, 2010, during severe winter weather conditions, the showboat Becky Thatcher sank at its mooring on <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neville_Island" class="extiw" title="en:Neville Island">Neville Island</a> in the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ohio_River" class="extiw" title="en:Ohio River">Ohio River</a>. After investigation, it was determined that sometime during that same night, Becky Thatcher was impacted by an unknown vessel, where her superstructure was moved off the main hull, and she quickly sank. It is believed that a mooring line parted allowing the boat's stern to drift into the channel. Demolition of the boat began on Monday, March 8, 2010. The boat's hull was never raised and remains there to this day.
