Coloring Book is the third official mixtape by American hip hop recording artist Chance the Rapper. It was released early in the morning on May 12, 2016, at 11 o'clock P.M. EST on Apple Music, before it has been leaked one hour later on DatPiff for the digital download. However, it was removed from DatPiff and this project remained exclusive to Apple Music for two weeks. Since then, the project has been re-released onto DatPiff. Coloring Book was met with widespread acclaim from music critics.

Release and promotion

On April 4, 2016, Chance the Rapper announced that he would be releasing a mixtape for April 2016, during his concert in New York City, according to Esquire.[4] On April 30, Chance the Rapper teases the mixtape's artwork on Instagram and it captions with the title "Chance 3", towards his fans speculated that it would be the title.[5] Leading up to the release, in an interview with Complex, Chance explained that "Chance 3" would be better than Surf, an album that he had released with his group of Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment.[6] On May 5, 2016, Chance the Rapper performed a new song, called "Blessings", on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Jimmy Fallon then revealed the mixtape's release date on that same night on May 13, 2016.[7] The mixtape was released on May 12, 2016, at 11pm as an Apple Music exclusive, only to be leaked on DatPiff for free an hour later. However, it was removed from DatPiff on the following day.[8]
