Married at First Sight is an American reality television series based on a Danish series of the same name titled Gift Ved Første Blik.[1] The series first aired in the United States on FYI. Beginning with season two, it aired in simulcast on sister network A&E. The series features three couples, paired up by four experts, who agree to marry when they first meet. The experts are clinical psychologist Dr. Joseph Cilona, sexologist Dr. Logan Levkoff, sociologist Dr. Pepper Schwartz, and humanist chaplain Greg Epstein. The couples spend their wedding night in a hotel before leaving for a honeymoon. Upon returning home, they live together as a married couple for six weeks. Thereafter they choose to divorce or stay married.

Synopsis

Season 1

The couples are:

  • Jason Carrion and Cortney Hendrix
  • Doug Hehner and Jamie Otis-Hehner
  • Monet Bell and Vaughn Copeland

Monet and Vaughn got a divorce. In the 6 months later special, it was revealed that both Jason and Cortney and Doug and Jamie are still together.

Season 2

The couples are:

  • Jessica Castro and Ryan DeNino
  • Davina Kullar and Sean Varricchio
  • Jaclyn Methuen and Ryan Ranellone

Davina and Sean got a divorce. In the 6 months later special, it was revealed that both Jessica and Ryan D., as well as Jaclyn and Ryan R., are divorced. Shortly after filming the reunion special, Jessica filed for a restraining order against Ryan.[2] Although Jaclyn and Ryan decided to try to make their marriage work after the experiment ended, they split not long after. She wrote on Instagram, "Let's hope I catch one that is strong, smart, and appreciates my big personality! ..."[3]

Season 3

The couples are:

  • Tres Russell and Vanessa Nelson
  • David Norton and Ashley Doherty
  • Neil Bowlus and Samantha Role

David Norton and Ashley Doherty got a divorce because Ashley felt the social media incident during their marriage was too unbearable. She felt betrayed and that David broke her trust. David felt hurt and angry, realizing that Ashley made no real effort to make their marriage work and that he "had [his] head in the clouds... chasing someone who didn't want to be caught.".[4]

Neil Bowles and Samantha Role decide to get a divorce. Samantha wanted to remain married, but Neil felt dissatisfied with the overall experience and believed that the best thing for both their happiness was to divorce.[5] In the six month later special, it was said that Neil and Samantha have remained friends.

Tres Russell and Vanessa Nelson stayed married. In the six month later special, it was said that the two had separated.
