Summary

<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Micrograph" class="extiw" title="w:Micrograph">Micrograph</a> of an <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/endometriosis" class="extiw" title="w:endometriosis">endometrioma</a>. <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H%26E_stain" class="extiw" title="w:H&E stain">H&E stain</a>.

To <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/histology" class="extiw" title="w:histology">histologically</a> diagnose endometriosis one requires two of the three following criteria:

  1. endometrial <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/glands" class="extiw" title="w:glands">glands</a> - hyperchromatic (dark blue) <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/epithelium" class="extiw" title="w:epithelium">epithelium</a>.
  2. endometrial <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/stroma" class="extiw" title="w:stroma">stroma</a> - hyperchromatic spindle-shaped cells below the epithelium.
  3. <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/hemosiderin" class="extiw" title="w:hemosiderin">hemosiderin</a>-laden <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/macrophage" class="extiw" title="w:macrophage">macrophages</a> - brown pigmented area.

All three of the above criteria are seen in the micrograph.
